Welcome to Memoirs of a Middle Mama

Welcome to Memoirs of a Middle Mama.

I’ve been sitting with this idea for a while—creating a space to share the messy, beautiful, heartbreaking, and joy-filled pieces of life as a foster and adoptive parent.

I’m a mama of seven (yes, seven!) and for the past several years, our family has lived smack in the middle of the foster care world.

Why Middle Mama? Because that’s where I often find myself—right in the middle…

…of sleepless nights and school drop-offs.

…of trauma and healing.

…of a system that feels impossibly broken but still full of hope.

…of loving kids and their families fiercely and realizing love doesn’t always fix everything.

This page will be a mix of storytelling, encouragement, and practical advice (with a side of righteous middle mama rage when the need arises). My hope is that it becomes a place where foster parents, adoptive parents, and anyone curious about this journey can find connection, honesty, and maybe even a laugh on the hard days.

Welcome, friend. I’m glad you’re here. Grab your coffee (or your reheated-for-the-third-time coffee – let’s be honest), pull up a chair, and let’s walk this road together. 💛

Just found your blog and look forward to following. We are an adoptive/foster/grandparenting family. We are currently grandparent two of our middle child’s children, after they were taken into DCS custody. The 16-year old has PTSD and rage over her removal from mother and has gone through three cycles of residential care. I look forward to learning more about trauma response so that I can continue to remind myself to be loving and consistent.

    1. I am so glad you are here, truly. And thank you for sharing a bit of your story. That’s a lot to be carrying, and the way you’re intentionally reminding yourself to stay loving and consistent… that matters more than you probably realize.!

I am working on getting this page built and updated, but I currently have a lot more content over on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/memoirsofamiddlemama. I am currently working through a series on Complex Developmental Trauma and the many common overlapping diagnoses seen in kids in foster care. Would love to have you join the conversation!
